On Jan. 2, Bob Weir won the Republican nomination for the Gainesville seat on Prince William County Board of Supervisors. A Special Election will be held Feb. 21 to fill a vacancy created by the Dec. 16 resignation of Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland.
Weir, a Haymarket Town Council member in his fifth term, won a majority of the vote on the first round of voting at a GOP mass meeting held at Park Valley Church in Haymarket.
Weir beat out fellow Republican candidates, Ray Mizener and Alyson Satterwhite.
Some 372 people registered to vote at the mass meeting used to decide the nomination, according to Brian Penn, spokesman for the Prince William Republican Committee. The voting was done by secret ballot, Penn said.
