Buckhall home totally destroyed in New Year’s Day fire

This morning, Jan. 1, 2023, at 11:44 a.m. Prince William fire and rescue crews were dispatched to the 5900 block of Yates Ford Road (Buckhall) for a reported house fire. Crews arrived to observe fire extending to and through the attic, according to Matt Smolsky, assistant fire chief.

Smolsky said the “volume of fire and structural damage made extinguishment more difficult and time consuming, and the home was totally destroyed.”

The Red Cross is assisting the four adults and three children, who were displaced. One firefighter was injured during exterior operations and was transported and treated at a local medical facility with a non-life-threatening injury. The Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of fire, Smolsky said.

Emergency crews were on the scene for six hours and 15 minutes, Smolsky said. The Buckhall fire station is located two miles from the home.
