Murder Investigation *JUVENILE SUSPECT ARRESTED – On May 12, 2022, the juvenile suspect sought in connection to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Dumfries man, that occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) on May 8, was arrested. The suspect, identified as 16-year-old male, turned himself in at the Garfield Police Station in Woodbridge without incident. An adult suspect, identified as Malachi Thaddeus COLEMAN, was previously arrested in connection to this investigation.

Murder Investigation *SUSPECT ARRESTED [Previously Released] – On May 12, the adult suspect sought in connection to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Dumfries man, that occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) on May 8, was arrested. The suspect, identified as Malachi Thaddeus COLEMAN, turned himself in at the Adult Detention Center in Manassas without incident. Detectives continue to seek the location of the 16-year-old male juvenile suspect who may be armed. The Police Department is offering up to a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The investigation continues.
Murder Investigation *SUSPECTS IDENTIFIED [Previously Released] – On May 10, detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau identified two suspects sought in connection to the fatal shooting that occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) on May 8. One of the suspects is a juvenile. Detectives subsequently obtained arrest warrants for the adult suspect, and a detention order for the juvenile suspect. Attempts to locate both suspects have been unsuccessful. Pursuant to a court order issued today, May 12, 2022, by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of Prince William County, the Prince William County Police Department received authorization to publicly release the identifying information of the juvenile sought in connection to this investigation. With the release of the juvenile’s information, as well as the adult suspect, police are asking for the public’s help locating these individuals. The Police Department is offering up to a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Both individuals should be considered armed and dangerous. The investigation continues.
Homicide Investigation [Previously Released] – On May 8 at 1:58AM, officers responded to investigate a shooting that was reported to have occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) an hour prior. An adult man suffering multiple gunshot wounds was brought to an area hospital by an acquaintance. Hospital staff notified police. A short time later, the man was pronounced dead. The investigation revealed the man was shot following an altercation that reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Officers responded to the area and were able to locate the crime scene where the incident occurred. No other injuries were reported. Two parked and unoccupied vehicles sustained damage from being struck by gunfire. Preliminarily, the incident does not appear to be random and there is no active threat to the community. The investigation continues, according to First Sgt. Jonathan Perok, who heads the PWCPD Public Information Office.
