County police investigating homicide early this morning May 8 in Gainesville

Homicide Investigation – On Sunday, May 8, 2022 at 1:58AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to investigate a shooting that was reported to have occurred in the area of the Somerset Pointe Apartments located in the 14000 block of Deming Dr. in Gainesville (20155) an hour prior. An adult man suffering multiple gunshot wounds was brought to an area hospital by an acquaintance. Hospital staff notified police. A short time later, the man was pronounced dead.

First Sergeant Jonathan Perok, public information officer, said, “The investigation revealed the man was shot following an altercation that reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Officers responded to the area and were able to locate the crime scene where the incident occurred.”

Perok said no other injuries were reported. Two parked and uncoupled vehicles sustained damage from being struck by gunfire. Preliminarily, the incident does not appear to be random and there is no active threat to the community. The investigation continues.
