Malicious Wounding | Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 at 10:20PM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the 4400 block of Dodds Mill Dr. in Haymarket (20169) to investigate a burglary. Upon arriving in the area, officers were informed by residents that the suspect, later identified as the accused, had broken into a neighbor’s home, and was standing nearby. When the accused observed the officers at the location, he immediately approached the officer and struck him. During the encounter, the accused refused to follow officer’s commands and actively resisted being taken into custody. After a brief struggle, the accused was secured and placed inside a police vehicle.
The investigation revealed that the accused forced entry into a home and assaulted the homeowner, identified as a 79-year-old man. The accused then attempted to gain entry into a second home before destroying the shutters on the front of the house. While outside of the second house, the accused observed a vehicle pull into a nearby driveway and walked towards the vehicle. The accused then opened the driver’s door of the vehicle and inappropriately touched the 19-year-old female driver before neighbors intervened. After the encounter, the accused attempted to gain entry into a third home by smashing a front window. Shortly after the neighbors intervened, police arrived in the area and were quickly confronted by the accused. Rescue personnel responded to the location and transported the accused to an area hospital for further treatment and evaluation. While at UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center, the accused continued to actively resist and bit an officer before being re-secured. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Savonte Malik Manson HAWTHORNE, was arrested.

Incidents
• Death Investigation | House Fire – On Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022 at 11:33AM, Prince William County Police Department officers responded to a residence located in the 4600 block of Montega Dr. in Woodbridge (22192) to assist the Department of Fire & Rescue with ahouse fire. Fire crews initially responded to the home and discovered the sole occupant of the home, identified as an 83-year-old man, on the dining room floor with life-threatening injuries. The victim was removed from the home and flown to an area hospital where he died as a result of the injuries sustained during the fire on February 6. Based upon the preliminary results of the autopsy, the cause of the victim’s death appears to be accidental resulting from the fire. Following the investigation, the Department of Fire and Rescue, Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. No foul play is suspected at this time. The investigation continues.

• Armed Robbery – On Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 at 8:18PM, officers responded to the California Tortilla located at 3934 Fettler Park Dr. in Dumfries (22035) to investigate a robbery. An employee of the restaurant reported to police that an unknown man entered the unsecured business after it was closed and requested to use the restroom. After a short time, the suspect approached the employee and implied he had a weapon before demanding money from the cash register. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the restaurant on foot. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 and helicopter assistance from Fairfax Countpolice searched the area for the suspect who was not located.

• Residential Burglary – On Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at 5:11PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 14000 block of Roanoke St. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a burglary. A resident of the home reported to police that after hearing a noise in the residence, two unknown men were observed in the living room. The resident fled to a nearby residence and contacted the police. The suspects fled the home prior to police arriving in the area. The investigation revealed that the suspects entered the home through the unsecured front door. No property was reported missing.
