UPDATE Murder Investigation *SUSPECT & VICTIM IDENTIFIED – Prince William County Police Department homicide detectives are actively seeking the suspect sought in connection to the murder of a 37-year-old woman, identified as Mary Anne SMOOT, that occurred at the Raven Crest Apartments located in the 8100 block of Cobden Ct in Manassas Jan. 17.
The investigation revealed that the victim and a family member went to the above location to meet with the accused, identified as Maquan Omari MCCRAY. The family member accompanying the victim had a previous relationship with MCCRAY. During the encounter, the victim and MCCRAY got into a verbal altercation that escalated when the accused shot the victim multiple times before fleeing on foot. No other injuries were reported.
Officers attempted CPR on the victim until rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. After an extensive search of the area involving police K-9s and helicopter assistance from Fairfax County police, the accused was not located. Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of MCCRAY who has not been located. Homicide Investigation [Previously Released] – On January 17 at 10:22AM, officers responded to the Raven Crest Apartments located in the 8100 block of Cobden Ct in Manassas (20109) to investigate a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult woman inside an apartment with gunshot wounds. Officers performed CPR on the woman until rescue personnel arrived. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No other occupants in the apartment were injured. The suspect fled on foot prior to officers arriving in the area. A police K-9 and helicopter assistance from Fairfax County police searched the area for the suspect who was not located. The incident was isolated and contained to the residence. Preliminarily, the incident does not appear to be random and there is no active threat to the community. The name of the deceased will be released pending notification of a next-of-kin. The investigation continues.
