Fauquier County Public Schools will participate in an earthquake drill on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 10:15 a.m. The drill is part of the fourth annual Great SouthEast ShakeOut, a multi-state simultaneous earthquake drill in which participants practice the recommended action to take during an actual earthquake.

A preliminary review of the Sept. 23, 2015 officer involved shooting that occurred near Lake Drive in Manassas has been completed. In the interest of keeping our community informed of significant incidents involving our officers, further details of that incident are being publicly released.

As a result of laboratory tests, and in consultation with a university shelter veterinary program, Prince William County Animal Shelter has resumed cat adoptions and surrenders. Eight adult cats now are waiting for a forever home with a loving individual or family.

Manassas City Police reminds residents to tread lightly when offered unsolicited landscaping or home repair services by door-to-door salespeople. Some scam artists have been known to exploit catastrophic events such as storms to target victims in dire circumstances.

On Tuesday, September 29th, at approximately 4:30 p.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to a structure fire in a two-story single family home located in the 8700 block of Lords View Loop in Bristow.

Manassas City Police would like to thank the public for its patience as Investigators work tirelessly on the case, and for citizens’ tips that have provided helpful leads in their investigation. Detectives are actively pursuing additional leads. Prince William County Police detectives are currently on the scene of a shooting in the 4300 block of Wrangler Ln., Woodbridge, and are conducting an investigation. One victim has sustained a gunshot injury to the lower body. Altercation is believed to have taken place prior, according to Sergeant Jonathan L. Perok of the Prince William County Police Public Information Office.

Hundreds of choral students from middle and high schools across the county are practicing for the upcoming All County Chorus event on October 23 and 24 at Patriot High School. The event will challenge select singers as they rehearse new music with guest conductors.

Next Level Fitness & Performance in Haymarket is sponsoring a Healthy Heart Community Workout this Saturday, Oct. 3, beginning at 8 a.m. The goal is to get 100 participants to work out for 100 minutes. The workout is to support the effort of Jim Aram, Next Level client, to raise funds for American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
