The Prince William County Police reminds motorists to ear your seatbelt every time because seatbelts save lives! That is the underlying message of this year’s “Click It or Ticket” seatbelt enforcement campaign, which runs through Dec. 1, 2024.
For moms on Mother's Day and for Dads on Father's Day, the Manassas Museum, home of history in this small, unique Virginia city, is offering free admission.

Cleanup volunteers
Hundreds of volunteers - some in boats and some on land removed trash, debris, old tires, a car fender and even a broken sailboat during a massive cleanup effort of the Occoquan River and its banks in Manassas, Woodnridge, Occoquan and Fairfax VA on Saturday, April 28. The river is the source of drinking water for much of Prince William County as well as a recreational area.

First Gainesville heroes
Heritage Classic Charity, Inc. of Gainesville VA was honored for its work in raising funds to fight cancer and aid cancer research as the recipient of the first "Gainesville Hero" award recently instituted by Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland.

Need an idea for the $10 a week "Buy Local" challenge? The Virginia Department of Agriculture says to look for Virginia Grown horticulture products at a nursery or greenhouse nearby.
The local law enforcement/hospital take-back initiative in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency was held April 28 to prevent pill abuse and theft. According to the DEA, the initiative seeks to stop prescription drug abuse as well as accidental poisonings and overdoses.
A Memorial and Tribute Service, including a candlelight vigil, for fallen law enforcement officers who lived, or served, in greater Prince William County will be held May 9 in Prince William County VA.

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries wildlife specialists remind local residents that a bear is a wild animal, and that it is detrimental to the bear, as well as illegal in Virginia, to feed a bear under any circumstances. Even the inadvertent feeding of bears is illegal including allowing bears access to unsecured trash or birdfeeders.
