The Haymarket Town & Country Garden Club has been busy preparing for its annual Holiday Shoppe which will be held this coming Friday, Nov. 22 from 10 to 5 and Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Prince William Fire & Rescue Station 15 Community Hall on US Rte. 15 in Haymarket.

Between April and May of 2015, members of the Northern Virginia/DC Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, including detectives from the Prince William County and Manassas City Police Departments, conducted a proactive operation targeting individuals soliciting minors for sexual acts online.

Manassas City Police reminds residents that Lake Manassas is a drinking water supply and is not open to the public for recreation. The Police Department says it will have extra patrols on duty all season long to ensure that no one trespasses on the lake.

Students in Potomac High school’s Culinary Arts Program will prepare and host a May 7 Cinco de Mayo luncheon to show off their skills and teamwork to the PWC school superintendent and members of the school board. Customer service is a big part of the student learning experience.

National Bike to School Day was a hit with 240 students and 30 parents riding to Glenkirk Elementary School May 6. More than 25 per cent of the students chose to bike to school. For doing so, they were entered in a drawing to win one of four bicycles or backpacks.

At many farms, cool temperatures in late April delayed this year’s strawberry crop by a couple weeks. But these strawberries will be worth the wait, according to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS). Cooler conditions can help make the strawberries extra delicious. Many farms are expecting a bumper crop of berries this season.

Virginia has become the first state to take executive action to ensure that consumer protection goals established by President Obama are adopted in the Commonwealth, according to Executive Order #5 issued by Gov. Terry McAuliffe.
